Highway 40 (Interstate 64) was closed last weekend due to the demolition of the Ewing Avenue overpass. I went out to take a look. It’s amazing how large machines can chisel away and destroy concrete in a matter of hours what originally took years to plan and months to build. It will be replaced.
What will not be replaced was the far-too-tight and far-too-close to the Jefferson Avenue exit ramp from Ewing to eastbound Highway 40, which you can see below has been removed. I took a photograph of it in this post from February of 2020, almost exactly a year ago.
It’s always surreal to see interstates closed and devoid of traffic, like I witnessed way back in June of 2008, when Highway 40 was being rebuilt around Spoede Road in Frontenac.
